Indianapolis Adventure
We decided a couple of weeks ago that it was time for a Jansen Family Adventure. Emery travels so well and is fairly entertained by anything we do so we thought a weekend getaway would be perfect. Indianapolis Children's Museum was what we decided on so Saturday morning we hit the road running nice and early!
And this face says it all. Emery loved it! At first she was a little intimidated by all of the kids and would stand back to let them play but by the end of the day she was unstoppable.
They had an area that was pretty much made for her age. Blocks, water, sand, music instruments, all kinds of fun stuff. She liked the leaf blower and the birdhouses the best. (Doug liked the building blocks:)
After we played and looked at the dinosaur display it was time for a snack!
They had healthy Emery-friendly food like apples and homemade mac-n-cheese. Em and I shared that and Doug had chocolate ice cream. (We were on vacation--that means treats anytime you want!)
After lunch Emery got brave. She wanted to walk around everywhere so we decided that she could call the shots. And away she went!
Until she saw a screen with a little girl talking to her in Chinese. She would not leave or look away. She stood and talked to her like they were long lost best friends! They do say the younger they are the quicker they learn a different language....maybe Em's language of choice is Chinese ha!
We went through a really neat mirror maze and all went well until Em got confused about where we were and just sat down. Like "I do not know which Mommy is the real Mommy so I will sit and wait until she comes to get me!"
The food area was of course a big hit. The girl loves her food....real or pretend!
We decided to finish the day where we started--where all of the fun play areas were.
And what does our little girl do....lays down and reads a book. She really does take after her Mother ha!!
Our one last stop was the Music Room. It was LOUD but very cool. Perfect way to end the museum. Em really did have fun and I am sure we will be back!
We got to our hotel and this happened....Notice her crossed feet haha. She was clearly worn out but stayed on the go the entire night. We ate a ton of food at the Cheesecake Factory nearby and came back to our room to play. Everything was so fun.....until bed time. Em was tired, Doug was tired, I was tired. At home the girl would have been sound asleep in bed by 8pm. Not this night. She was sooo sleepy and kept telling us she wanted to go to bed......but clearly knew that the pack-n-play in the other room was NOT her bed. We tried everything. Milk, laying in our bed, turning off the lights, even Doug and I pretending to be asleep ha! No luck. We had a very sleepy sad girl. Finally Doug (aka the Baby Whisperer) walked and walked and walked with her and she was finally OUT. So OUT she slept till 9 this morning.....YAY!!! We all needed that sleep.
Today we tried out the hotel pool, ate more yummy food and headed home.
And with all the fun we had, we are still very happy to be home. The princess castle needs some playing with and Doug and I better put all of our stuff away.
Adventures are great but so is home!! I bet we all sleep good in our own beds tonight:)
So glad you had the opportunity to get away for the weekend and what a special place to go! Can sure see that Em had a great time. Looks like a wonderful place, educational and fun at the same time. I think we all have home instincts. Anxious to go but happy to be home in our own beds. Making precious memories.
