Summertime Shenanigans
My summer must-do list involves having our daily swims count as our baths, going to bed wayyyy past "bedtime" completely worn out from fun and sneaking in treats just because it is summer. This week we can check off all three.
Doug helps coach a little league team (because he is slightly crazy. I mean its not like he doesn't have years of little league ahead of him or anything...) and they had three games this week. Usually their games have started too late for the kids and I to enjoy but this week they fit perfectly into our easy-going schedule. They take a couple of hours which really means we watch about 30 minutes of baseball followed by swinging, sliding, spilled popcorn and a snow cone (Em's first!).
This whole jungle-gym thing is getting to be a workout now that August thinks he can keep up. But it also equals sleepy kiddos so I will push through the pain.
By Friday, I was tired of the heat but also a little stir crazy. As I was reading a book to Em, I thought of the awesome new library we have and the kid room....perfect summer play! I guess all of the other Moms in town had the same idea because it was packed! Emery played quietly like a good little girl. I am glad she stayed put at the doll house because I had to chase Auggie up and down the isles of books and make sure he didn't fall off any of the furniture he was crawling on. I think he only wrecked a few games of Jenga a group was playing and only slobbered on a handful of the toys....so there is that. They had a craft room set up too--Em I made the butterfly and Emery drew one of her famous "E's" on it. With all of the other kids around, it seemed like the librarians didn't mind the craziness...so we will be back!
We came home for lunch--where Aug continued to climb and in general just annoy Emery. I told her to just pretend that Auggie was her real baby doll....that didn't fly.
But how could anyone stay mad at this sweet baby boy? (Yes..I let him nap on me again. I have a problem, I know.)
We started the weekend off right with "Finding Dorie." "Finding Nemo" has always been a favorite....the first full movie Em ever watched. So we were very excited to see some of our favorite characters again.
Nana, Dee Dee and Alayna joined us too. *Note that Em and Alayna both have 'mingos on. And they didn't even call each other ha!
Alayna clearly came for the popcorn, Emery watched most of the movie and ate Nana's skittles and August Samuel....well this was probably the last movie for him for awhile. Maybe when he is like twelve we will try again.
Doug and I loved it. I even told him maybe he and I should go back by ourselves so we can really see it and pay attention this time ha!
Saturday has turned into swim day around here. Just the four of us. Aug skipped his morning nap and lounged in the pool instead. And doesn't he look just like his sister in this one?
But then he got his belly full and this happened. He would hear us giggle and slowly open one eye and glare at us. Too funny. We layed around and played the rest of Saturday but then decided we wanted big yummy burgers for supper. That meant a quick Wal Mart run, a late supper and even later bedtimes. We had every intention of going to the earlier church time on Sunday but when your kids are still sleeping after 8am....you do NOT wake them. So 10 o'clock out in Grove it was. We wanted to see Grandma and Grandpa anyway.
We also had a birthday party to go to...Nora's! Here are the kids eating. Note that my little Auggie Boy is sitting with the big kids in a chair! He loved it. Being big is fun!
And here he is still eating after everyone else was done and long gone haha. We joked that he probably ate the most at the table....and really that isn't a joke. My man can eat!
Grandma Angie was Em's cake and ice cream eating partner. I think I have a picture of Emery sneaking a bite of her ice cream two years ago at Nora's party.
It was then Auggie's turn to sit with Grandma. He mostly just wanted to steal her cane and being the best Grandma, she totally would have let him.
I have said it before, but my babies are the luckiest when it comes to the Grandparent department. I thank God for the love that they pour out on my children.
We partied hard at Nora's and Emery got her first ever "Shopkins"--aka tiny little toy that her brother is going to eat. We had a big long talk about not leaving them on the the floor and she took us very serious...for that day. We will see how today goes. We didn't have any plans for the rest of the day but then Grandma Susie and Grandpa Sammy called and invited us out to supper at the Sacred Heart Picnic. You can't say no to that!
So it was more cake for Em. Pink icing this time. I couldn't say no....look at that smile. We will eat some vegetables today and maybe cancel out some of that sugar.
Auggie is more of my meat and potatoes kind of guy. So really they work perfectly together. He ate the supper and she ate the dessert! We were going to go walk around the picnic when it started pouring....which was a beautiful sight. Sitting next to my farming father-in-law, I couldn't complain! So we came home, played shopkins and dress up and attempted to go to bed on time for once.
It is a beautiful (and hot) Monday and we have a free week ahead of us. I wonder what we can get in to this week?
