Our First Days Together: A Picture Documentary
Because life moves too quickly and these moments are too precious, I do not want to forget anything about August's first week with us. I want August and Emery to be able to look back and read about their first days together and someday, when they are all grown up, Doug and I can sit down and look at how far our greatest blessings have come. So here are lots of pictures of what our life is like as a family of four....
This is my heart in one photo-the moment Em met Auggie. She has talked about him forever, but we never really knew if she understood that baby brother was really going to come home with us. Emery has done so so so good and I could not be more proud of her. She is gentle with August and kisses him goodnight. Yes-there have been a lot more "no's" and everything seems to be "lucky" according to her right now, but going from the center of attention to having to share the spotlight is a major adjustment. Doug and I are trying our best to share the love and attention. I realized the other night the poor girl just wanted held--nothing made her happier than for me just to sit by her with my arm around her. I finally layed down with her in bed the other night (Doug had been filling in) and that made her so happy. All of a sudden she is such a two year old--definitely no longer a baby. But she will always be my baby girl:)
First of all, we could not have asked for a better hospital experience. Nurses were wonderful, my doctor was wonderful, everything went according to plan. Many many prayers were answered on Tuesday. From the very beginning, August has been such a good baby--so was his sister, and I have been told that there is no way I could have two that good--so we will see if he stays that way!
One of the biggest shocks came when we noticed all of his blonde hair. We knew he was going to have hair (an ultrasound told us that) but I never thought it would be blonde. Doug and I have always joked that our daughter would have his stick straight hair and our boy would have my curly hair...joke is on us because that is looking to be true!
August resembles Emery but also has his own look....I am excited to compare their pictures in a couple of weeks. One thing they do have in common--the cutest dimple in their right cheeks. Doug and I do not have dimples but my Aunt Linda and Dora do and my Grandma Arlene did. Love those dimples!
We loved all of our visitors in the hospital--Thank you to those who stopped in to see us. It is kinda fun showing off a bundle of joy!
My favorite visits were from this little girl. Nana (who has been the greatest of help this past week) stayed with Miss Em and brought her to see us twice a day. At first Em was shy and wasn't too sure about me being in a hospital bed, but she quickly warmed up and quickly became ornery. There were just too many buttons to push (she might have called the nurse at least 5 times) and "otha babies" to see (Doug took her on walks to keep her from going crazy). All of these visits wore the girl out and she finally wanted to be held by me....yes please!! Doug captured this moment of me and my girl and I love it.
Emery thought it was pretty cool that August rode in the car with her....until he screamed half way home. Then she just kind of stared at him with a very concerned look on her face ha!
But when we pulled in the drive, everyone was happy and Em said, "Home Auggie!"
We tried out the crib (wayyyy to big) and let Emery show August around the house. (Shout out to Aunt Kaci for making August's name sign. Isn't it the coolest??)
The next morning was alllllll about showing Auggie Emery's toys and lounging around together. You can find them doing this a couple of times a day.
Told you this happens a lot...
And so does this:)
Since August is taking up a lot of my time, Doug has been trying to do new, fun things with Emery. And yes, eating corn on the cob is a new fun thing...
that she HATED haha.
Don't worry, Doug made it up to the girl by "swimming" for the first time at the house. Really they just tried out the hot tub, but it was a fun success. I am hoping the sun comes out soon because the big pool is ready too!!
Both babies have been sleeping really good at night. Emery has embraced summer vacation and sleeps in until 8:30 and August has been waking up every 3-4 hours at night. Please, August Samuel, be a good sleeper like your sister!!!
The boy screamed though his first little bath and Emery just stood with a very worried look on her face. He doesn't cry very often so when he does I think Emery worries about him. I know she will always look out for him.
And with all of the Auggie picture taking going on, Emery Kayt is happy to pose anywhere, anytime. The girl still rules this roost ha!
Today is Doug's last day of work so I am going to let him be a baby hog. A week just goes by too fast, especially if you are a happy family of four learning all about this new life together.
Loving every single minute.
Thanks so much for sharing these wonderful firsts with us. God has sure brought these two to the right place. Mommy, Daddy, so many aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, g-grandparents and a gg-grandparent. Wow so much love! What a blessing they are.
ReplyDeleteOOps sorry guess no gg-grandparent , but believe there is still enough to feel the love.
ReplyDeleteOops, sorry guess there is not a gg-grandparent, but think there is still enough love to share.
