Birthday Week Fun
Around here we like to celebrate a birthday all week. Gives us an excuse to have a little extra fun and a little more treats. Nothing wrong with that! Here is a recap (and LOTS of pictures) of Auggie's first birthday week.
Monday: Nana helped us start the week off right with a birthday muffin. We added to candle because why not? The kid could use the practice...he is new at the whole birthday thing ha! Later Emery asked me if it was time for her birthday now since Auggie had had his. I think we confused her a little.
Monday was our craft day. My friend Val and her son Lincoln came over to play/help out too. Our favorite 11 year old was in charge of the kiddos. Last year I remember saying everyone needed to get themselves a 10 year old. Now I am saying everyone needs to get an 11 year old. Still young enough to play pretend and have fun with Emery, old enough to handle Auggie. I just kind of boss her around and she helps me out so much!
To say thank you we went to cheer her on at her softball game. Emery talked Nana into popcorn and skittles and didn't sit still once. There was also a lot of complaining about her toes getting muddy (dusty). It just made me laugh. Such a girl.
Auggie Boy got passed from one person to the next and kept busy with cheerios and gold fish. Really he sat still more than sister did!
Tuesday: Tuesday was beautiful so we knew we wanted to get outside. After morning naps (for Auggie, Nana and I hehe....) we headed to Ballard Nature Center just down the road. We did this exact same trip when Auggie was a couple of weeks old so of course this adventure brought on lots of reminiscing. Our first stop was to check out the birds.
Then we played and snacked. Had to fuel up before the big hike (that ended up being much longer than intended.)
Neither of them are actually looking at me but I love this one.
And I really, really love this one.
We had to get a big rock picture. I have one of Emery this time last year and she looks like such a baby. Why did I think she was big then?
I wonder what Auggie will look like standing on the rock next year....

Em stayed busy picking us all flowers and wondering where the frogs and butterflies were. At one point she whacked me with a huge stick because it was her "walking stick." When we finally broke it down to her size (because she just kept flailing it in the air) she held it the most delicate way and walked so funny. Such an outdoors-woman!
We were very relieved to see the big rock again. Auggie was pretty darn heavy by then and I could tell Em was on the verge.... So it was off to the Dairy Barn for too much food and ice cream!
Wednesday: Wednesday was a big day! Big boy hair cut and big boy pool for the first time! This was Aug's fourth haircut but before she had always just trimmed it up with scissors. It grows crazy fast so I told Laura it was time for a summer cut! At first he was really wiggly but then we gave him a sucker and all was calm (and a little hairy...)
The before and after. I secretly loved his crazy long hair but oh my goodness do I love this short new do. He looks so much older I think.
How can I be so in love with his head? Like....is it weird to say I think he has the cutest shaped profile ever? Because I really think he does ha!
After that it was off to the Newton Pool. I am a major fan of this pool. So warm and kid friendly. Hannah joined us too which is perfect--she will play with Em for a little bit then go swim with her friends too. Thanks Hannah!
Emery ran in and never looked back. We stayed for three hours and I had to drag her pouty butt out. She didn't want to leave (but boy did she snore on the way home!)
Auggie was kind of a grouch the first hour and clung to me. Then he fell asleep--yes! The man needed a nap. After that he was a grinning wild man. He would just dive right in!
Besides swimming to Nana and jumping off the side, Emery probably went down this little slide 100 times. Each time with these faces!
I was surprised Auggie left his hat on but I was glad he did...that fair little skin of his needed it! And did I mention these are the swimming trunks he wore last year....when he was a newborn! I told you the man hasn't grown from the waist down. We had such a good time and I can't wait to do it again! Love my fishes!
Thursday: Thursday was Aug's actual birthday and we started it off right! It was so fun to see how excited Emery was for her brother's big day. I think she was the first to tell him Happy Birthday and sang the song to him many times.
We woke him up with balloons and he LOVED them. So pumped! I think he knew it was a special day. (Now I just have random balloons roaming around the house....)
Daddy had gotten up early and gotten us all donuts. We sang "Happy Birthday" and he just smiled.
Then he proceeded to do what he always does. Stand up, throw the donut on the floor 17 times and smile. This picture captured him so well. That's my boy!
After a wipe down (because Auggie slobbers and glazed donuts don't mix) we ran our last few errands (hopefully--I always forget something....)
And we spent the rest of the afternoon setting up the basement for the party and swimming in our own pool! A little colder than Newton's but not to bad.
Nana bought us steaks to grill for supper (Auggie had potatoes and green beans for his birthday meal) then finished off with a cupcake! He devoured it so I am excited to see what he thinks about his very own cake tomorrow.
Emery, Doug and I gave him the presents from us then. Emery had picked out a great big bouncy ball for him. I think Doug loves it the most.....
And we got him a tunnel to play in that was a HUGE success. He crawled back and forth in it the rest of the night. Auggie slept through the night--which he hasn't done in a while--so I think it is safe to say that he had a very happy birthday. We all loved celebrating him. He deserves it.
Today is do-everything-else-that-needs-done-before-the-party day. Cooking, cleaning, yard work and playing. Em keeps asking if it is her birthday yet. I told her not till after the party! We are so excited to celebrate with our family and friends. It is going to be fun!
