What. A. Week

Last week was quite a week. Just to give you a quick glimpse, Doug was gone, Auggie had a doctor's appointment, Emery got sick and I didn't have my usual babysitter for the week. Two weeks ago I was dreading getting to the week of the 19th. But then my village jumped in and we made it out just fine. (But boy were we excited to see Daddy Friday night!)
August was sick with a cold the week before and was suppose to just have his well check-up and shots this week. Of course it was discovered that he had a double ear infection and weezy lungs. Of course. The doctor has high hopes that he is older and stronger this year and therefore won't be sick all winter. I say it is only September and look at where we are.....
I pray for strong, healthy lungs and ears for him AND guidance for when he is not healthy because we all know how this is going to go. We did get his 15 month stats. Weight-21 pounds. Height-30 inches tall. He is in the 30th percentile for weight, the 13th for height and the 100th for his head. Sounds like my kid!
With one kid cold free, I had just been waiting for the other one to start. Sure enough, gross, green gunk started running out of Em's eye Tuesday night and she couldn't open either eyes by Wednesday morning. Poor girl. I sent her on her mary little way until I could take her to the doctor that afternoon. I was so proud of her at the doctor's. I was busy with her brother--standing with him/chasing him/making sure he didn't jump of the chair or lick the floor. She sat and did everything the doctor told her to do. She ended up needing eye drops. On the way there she had told me that she would not have to get a shot "because it is only my yucky eyes, Mommy." I didn't have the heart to tell her that I was going to have her get a flu shot too. She let out a big cry when it happened and then Auggie got all upset because she was upset. The next scene melted this Momma's heart. They just walked to each other and hugged. Sweetest hug ever. Hugs made it all better.
The drops did wonders and by Thursday morning her eyes were already better. Good thing too....it was picture day at school! Em told me she smiled pretty, so we will see how those turn out.
By Friday night, we had all had enough of each other. Emery wanted nothing to do with Auggie and Auggie wanted everything to do with his big sister. He really was a little monster (with the jammies to prove it!) After the millionth toy stolen or hit, Em ran to her room and slammed the door. (Normally something that I would take care of, but remember...we had had enough of each other.) To be honest, I was pretty okay with the shutting herself in her room part because now Auggie would have to leave her alone and there would be no more whining! Problem solved! Right before Doug got home she came out all serious, with an announcement.
"Mommy....I don't want to be Auggie's sister anymore."
The girl had been back in her room thinking long and hard about their relationship. And she was done. I just had to giggle. I reminded her that she was oh-so-lucky to have Aug and that even though little brothers can be a bother, we still love them very much.
Her answer: "No....we don't have to."
Me: "Yes, we do. Believe me....I am coming from experience."
I made them kiss and hug and exchange I love yous. Opposite scene from the doctor's.
Then Daddy walked in and all was wonderful again.
While sickness, shots and bickering had us down some evenings, my kids were all smiles during the day thanks to our wonderful family. My grandparents entertained for a day, Aunt Kim was a life saver and about just decided to keep Auggie forever, Aunt Cheryl treated my girl when she didn't have to and we would never make it if it wasn't for Nana. Even though we have lived back home for a few years now, I am still reminded of what a blessing living here with family is.
A Saturday with no plans turned into a house full of friends and a fire. (Too bad the weather wasn't like it is today. Maybe a re-do soon??) P.S. Nothing about toddlers and fires is fun but s'mores are yummy so oh well.
Sunday was spent on the farm for a birthday and at home enjoying each other. My kids will probably find this week boring but I am looking forward to health and normalcy.
Oh...and this weather. Beautiful! Hope everyone has a great week ahead!
