Fun and Firsts
This past week was full of fun and firsts.
And if the rest of summer follows suit, I will be a happy girl.
Wednesday Shar joined us bright rainy and early and we headed south to meet up at the Splash Pad with Kendra and the boys. The weather was not looking like splash pad weather but it ended up being perfect. Not too hot for the babies and not too cold for the bigs.
I knew Emery Kayt would love every second. Give the girl a sprinkler or even a hose and she is happy. We even danced in the rain one night this week and she was in heaven. Auggie on the other hand only likes to get wet if he is swimming. An accidental sprinkle will cause a meltdown so I wasn't sure how he would react to the splash pad. Surprisingly, the kid loved it! Good thing too because we already want to go back and visit the Crane's again.
Does Bennett really look like Auggie here?
I can kind of see it but I have had quite a few people tell me that they think this is Aug!
Thursday morning Nana watched the kids while I had my first cheerleading practice. Sidenote: My team did such a great job and it felt good to be back! We had no plans the rest of the day except for naps and play. (Auggie told me a million times he wasn't tired.....)
The boys happened to nap at the same time so it was nice to have some alone time with just Em. She seems to be changing so fast all of a sudden and if the neighbor girl is out I swear I will go the whole day only seeing her at breakfast, lunch and supper. We worked on letters and had a coloring contest. We both voted and I won.
I am sad I didn't get a picture of how we spent our whole day Friday. Kaci and the girls came to play and Shar joined us around lunch. Kids played while we visited. How lucky I was to see all my girls in one week! After they left I made Emery and Auggie take big, late naps because we had some after-bedtime fun planned!
This is so, so Auggie.
And a sweet one! We dressed in our finest red, white and blue and headed to Newton to support our Aunt Linda in the Glow Parade.
The kids have barely seen a parade let alone been in one so I wasn't sure what to think. But we will do anything for Aunt Linda! We ended up having a blast and I am so glad we did it. Em and Aug walked the whole way and threw candy like champs. Auggie was reallllly into the candy throwing, so much so that I had to warn some parade goers to be ready! The late naps worked because they chatted all the way home instead of sleeping. It was a late night.
But no rest for the weary because we had T-ball first thing in the morning. This is Emery's first year playing and Douglas is her coach. She loves her Daddy and was his shadow out on the field.
So a little bit of background: Throughout the past few weeks Doug tried to practice with Emery but always ended up stuck with just Auggie--she would get a chair and say that she wanted to be the "watcher". Sounds just like me...sorry Doug. So she never ended up practicing and our hopes were not high for her to be MVP. The morning of her game she got very upset twice and we finally got her to tell us that she was nervous. This nervousness is new. She had it the week before about swimming lessons but told me that she asked Jesus to take away her nervousness and that he had made her excited instead. She must have forgotten to pray about T-ball. We ensured her that as long as she tried hard and had fun that there was nothing to be nervous about. We also went super early so she could practice before anyone else was there. I am so glad we did that. You could see her relax almost immediately. She did tell me that she hoped the coach wouldn't be mad if she messed up....and I reminded her that Daddy was her coach. She just giggled. When it came game time she volunteered to bat first and hit it off the tee both at-bats. She even ran to the right base! See Em, nothing to be nervous about. We might have to work on fielding though. A grounder came right to her...but she was too busy twirling around! Sounds just like me. Sorry Doug.
Auggie knew that he had to be just a "watcher" but honestly I had zero hope of him actually sitting next to me and watching. He wanted to be out there so badly! But we sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" at the top of our lungs and cheered on Em's every move. He really was very good. Near the end he snuck over to the dugout and sat by Emery. I wish I would have gotten a picture. He really is her biggest fan. After the game, Emery said she had fun and so did Doug. I would call our first T-ball game a success!
After naps it was swim party time! Our friends the Weber's have an awesome pond and it felt so good Saturday afternoon. And if you are wondering what Auggie is doing in this picture, he is being Yadi, the Cardinal's catcher. I am not sure why he felt like this was the opportune time to practice his catcher pose but oh well. You do you, Auggie.
This was B's first pond experience and he loved it. Now I can't wait to take him to the beach.
Emery jumped off the diving board a million times (which is still shocking to me) and Aug was a little fish too.
We swam and ate and swam and ate. I live for little get-togethers like this. We had sandy, sleeping kids by the time we got home. Perfect.
I don't want to brag, but we dominated Sunday. Nana randomly came over before lunch (with lunch I should add) and we put her to work! Doug had a project on the deck--building it up so some little blonde haired boy can't climb in. He got that done and it is just what we needed. Mom and I blew leaves, cleaned out the sand pile (that I let get wet and disgusting) and trimmed bushes. We marked a few other things off the list too. When your kids will only be outside, you work outside.
I started a little birthday prep, okay really my only birthday prep besides his cake, because we are going simple this year. Auggie of course wants a farm birthday and I just can't believe my baby is going to be three. I am going into birthday week in denial.
Sunday night it was baths, then supper, then bedtime. Kind of out of order because we completely lost track of time and baths took precedence over supper. We were dirty.
This was the first bath that Bennett really took with Emery and Auggie. Usually I have Emery hold B for a quick scrub but Doug and I knew he would love to actually sit and play with them. We were right and the tub was full!
This week is birthday week so you know we have lots of fun planned. Lots of Auggie fun.
Have a wonderful week everyone!
