Homecoming and Santa Claus

We had a very full yet very relaxing weekend. I love how that works out sometimes.

It was much needed after our busy week. This past week was Homecoming for me at school and being in charge of Pep Club (who hosts Homecoming) and the Cheer Coach, I found myself a bit busy. Oh...and did I mention Douglas was in New York? It was Grandparents to the rescue and we made it out just fine. (Except for Thursday. Things fell apart for me Thursday). But then Douglas was back and all was right again.
Friday night was the big game and coronation and a big night for Miss Emery Kayt. She and a buddy from school got to be the crown bearers and oh my goodness did they look so sweet. All the heart eyes for these two. She got to get her hair done and even wear a little tiny bit of lip gloss (don't tell her Father).
I was worried that she would be nervous walking out and standing in front of all those people, but the girl never stopped smiling. When all was said and done she wanted to know why Homecoming was so short....I think she thought she got to go to the dance and everything! I love that the King and Queen (and really all the kids on the court) are such good kids and role models for my littles. And they were so nice to Em that night. I have said it before, but my job has been a blessing to my family this year. A busy blessing. But very much a blessing.
Saturday night was the dance. A lot goes into Homecoming but thankfully a Senior mom took care of all the planning for the decor and it turned out beautifully. This years theme was "Frozen in Time" and I am very tempted to do the exact same decorations next year...and the next year... and the next. I can just change the name! "Winter Wonderland"..."Walking in a Snowy Forest"...you get the idea.
I am really just a kid at heart and I loveeee seeing all of the girls in their dresses and the boys looking so dapper. My one hope was that the high schoolers had fun and I have been told by many that they did. I told Doug that I plan on still chaperoning dances when our kids are in school so I can a. embarrass them and b. watch their every move.
After church and Niemergs breakfast on Sunday, I put on my running clothes...only to end up taking a two hour nap. I hate it when that happens haha. When your husband says go take a nap, you go and take a big nap. I think Homecoming caught up with me! In the afternoon, Nana came over and we decided it was time to go see Santa. Our lists were ready!
Emery always has a hard time coming up with anything for her list. Last year she wanted markers. Markers. A month ago there was noting on her list again. We walked up and down aisles at Wal-Mart, we looked at toy catalogues. She wanted nothing. Finally the perfect gift came to her....this year her heart is set on a Playhouse so that her and Auggie and our neighbor girl can play.
And I think Santa's little elf (Douglas) is going to make her dream come true!
Auggie is the opposite of Emery. He wants it all (except for "girl toys").  We practiced what we were going to say to Santa and his list then went something like an Incredibles costume and a playhouse with Emery. Easy! But when he got on Santa's lap he added a jeep he could drive and an iPad. Huh?!?! Sorry Auggie...I don't think you have been quite that good.
Bennett Lee of course doesn't have a list. Third children do not need anything. Emery and Auggie told Santa he wants a rattle because to them he is still a baby and babies need rattles.
He will love the bows and paper and boxes.
My little stair-steps have been pretty darn good this year. I am thinking they for sure made the Nice List.
Well....maybe two out of three did.
Nana treated us to an early supper at Joes and by then it was dark so we took in the lights. Perfect way to end the weekend.

I heard on the radio this morning that we are 15 days away from Christmas and my heart did an excited little flutter. These three make this time of year even more special than it already is and I am so looking forward to making this year's Christmas memories.

Here is to a much slower week! Have a wonderful one!
