Summer Swing
We have been working hard at getting into that summer swing.
Actually we have been taking it really easy. I love being busy and all of the fun we pack into the summer, but what I really love are slow mornings when we stay in jammies a little too long, we fight over who gets to cuddle Bennett first, and we have the whole day ahead of us with no set plans. We have adjusted to our summer schedule quite nicely. The kids are already filthy (might of had to scrub B and Em's feet before bed last night) and bedtime has some how moved to about an hour later than usual. Em loves playing pretend with the neighbor girl, Auggie loves tagging along or changing his clothes to play basketball or farm and Bennett is happiest if someone is driving him around in the Barbie Jeep. Thank goodness for two big siblings. I thought Bennett was going to be the hard one this summer but that title might actually go to Auggie so far. I love taking all morning to drink my coffee, sneaking in reading time when the kids are all playing nicely and I love nap time. Just being honest.
So far this summer (I know I am only two weeks in...) I have kept my cool and am proud of my patience. I do have an Auggie story I want to remember. So I took all three kids to Wal-mart on Friday (for fun). We had made it through the entire store, I let them run the toy isles, we were finally to the produce. I warned Auggie (for the thousandth time) to not touch anything. The next thing I know he is waddling my way with a watermelon. I of course tell him to put it right back and then he proceeds to try and dribble it like a basketball. At least that is what Emery and I observed. (Really I am not sure what he was doing and he later just told me it got too heavy....ya don't say!). Picture a large cracked watermelon with juice running out. Lots of it. And lots of people around. I calmly picked him up and put him in the cart. He looked at me, then the watermelon, and back to me--just waiting on me to say something. When I didn't, he softly whispered, "Wow....I am really sorry about that to you." That little sentence made me laugh and I just agreed that I was sorry about it too. A worker walked by and acted like that happened everyday (it probably does) and we said we were sorry. Aug minded the rest of the Wal-mart trip.
Saturday morning kicked off the summer for Jansen T-ball. Em played last year so she was an old pro. Auggie said he was nervous all morning (how does he know what nervous means?) but his face lit up the minute he stepped on the field.
Auggie wanted to play ball so badly last year. We would sit and sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" and Doug would let him warm up with the team before the game. So you could say we have been looking forward to his first game for awhile now. For being the smallest and the youngest on the team, he might have taken it the most serious. He was always down and ready and after the game was mad that when he played 1st base, no one threw him the ball. For a boy that has the attention span of a fly, he played hard and listened good for an hour. And he sure looked cute doing it.
Em hit the ball really good when Doug pitched it to her, Bennett stayed happy because I fed him the entire time and Coach Jansen kept his patience with about 10 little ones running around. I would chalk up the first game as a success!
Saturday was also our first Lake Day of the year!
Have I ever mentioned that we love the lake?
Emery Kayt jumped in as soon as she could, Auggie took a second to get used to the water but then was doing tricks just like Em, and I got to hold Bennett for his first swim of the year. I think his smile says it all. I can't wait to swim and swim and swim with them.
Uncle Chuck treated us to a boat ride and smoked ribs. Nana joined us for supper and then took three sleepy kiddos home. Yep, we pay our babysitter with boat rides and ribs.
It is crazy to think we have been going out to Chuck's family's lake house since Emery was one. She would fall asleep on the boat in my arms. Now we wrestle three kids (and three dogs) and I just love the memories we have made and the memories to come.
It is finally June and that means Birthday Week for August Samuel (even though I keep telling him I refuse to let him turn 4.) We have lots of fun planned that he has picked out and we look forward to celebrating our Auggie Boy this week.
Happy Monday~Hope you have fun too!
